How to Make iTunes Files Into an MP3 CD

While an audio CD allows you to play up to 80 minutes of music on a standard CD player, an MP3 CD allows you to store MP3 music files for use on computers and specially designed MP3 CD players. You cannot play MP3 CDs on a standard CD player, but you can hold a lot more music, up to 700 megabytes, which allows for much greater music storage. Apple's iTunes software allows you to burn MP3 CDs with just a few clicks.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open iTunes.

    • 2

Create a playlist for your MP3 CD. Click the "+" button on the left side of your iTunes browser to create a playlist, and type in a name.

    • 3

Add songs to your playlist. Click the "Music" option in the left column of your iTunes browser, directly beneath the "Library" heading, and select the songs you want to use. Click a song to select it, and hold the "Shift" key to select multiple songs. When you have all of your selections highlighted, click and drag them onto your new playlist.

    • 4

Click the name of your playlist once to highlight it.

    • 5

Access your "Burn Preferences." If you use a Mac, click "iTunes" on the menu bar and select "Preferences" from the drop down menu, followed by the "Burning" tab. If you use Windows, click "Edit" on the menu bar and select "Preferences" from the drop down menu, followed by the "Burning" tab. For iTunes 9 users, you can just click the "Burn Disc" button in the lower right corner of your iTunes browser to access your preferences.

    • 6

Select the "MP3 CD" option that appears alongside "Disc Format."

    • 7

Insert a blank CD into your computer. If you use a CD-R, you can record onto the disc only once. If you use a CD-RW, you can record over your disc multiple times.

    • 8

Click "Burn." Check that your playlist is still highlighted in order to ensure that the correct MP3s copy to your disc.
