How to Download Songs Onto a Computerized Karaoke Player

The popularity of karaoke remains high, both as entertainment in night clubs and among friends and family at home. New and convenient computer software for playing karaoke songs is available for purchase and in freeware versions. So karaoke enthusiasts have at least two choices--both easy to implement. One choice is to purchase and download audio or video karaoke files that display song lyrics as well as animations or other images on screen while a song is played. The easier and much less expensive choice, although the quality is lower, is to download MIDI karaoke song files.

Click on one of the available download sites listed under the banner that says "Songs can be found at one of the following mirror sites."

    • 4

Select a letter from the alphabetical list of songs in Pop-Rock style. The letter corresponds with the name of an artist.

    • 5
Select songs by your favorite artists

Click on the name of an artist.

    • 6

Click on a song by the artist you have selected.

    • 7

Click "Save" or "Open" when the file-download dialog box appears. The files are zip files and will require extracting the .KAR files to the desired folder on your computer. Select your next song and continue browsing, selecting and downloading until you have a list of songs you are satisfied with.

    Downloading MP3+G Karaoke Songs

    • 8

Visit the MP3G Music website or comparable website. These websites offer MP3+G format karaoke files for sale.

    • 9

Select the files you want to buy, pay for them and download them as you would download audio files from vendors such as Amazon, iTunes or eMusic. In most cases the files will be zipped, since the MP3+G format means that each karaoke song requires two distinct files.

    • 10

Extract the zipped karaoke files--one .MP3 and one .CDG file--to the desired folder on your computer. Be sure the file names for both files are identical and are in the same folder, especially if you rename the files later.

    • 11

Open the songs you wish to play in a computer karaoke player and add them to playlists, following the instructions given for your software. You are ready to do karaoke.
