How to Get Liner Notes With an MP3 Download

The field of downloadable digital music has seen significant improvements in quality since websites like iTunes first started marketing and selling it. But while quality, range and playability have all improved, the availability of liner notes has not. To those for whom a well-printed booklet containing information about the music, recording, and, of course, lyrics or vocal texts, is important, buying a physical CD of similar has remained preferable to downloading. While some download sites offer liner notes, not all of them do, so be sure to check before any money changes hands.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the album you want to download, and make sure the site also allows you to download liner notes. Usually, this is in the form of a PDF.

    • 2

Register for the download service. Often the sites that allow for the download of liner notes are record company specific, such as Universal Music. You will need to provide correct information concerning your name and address together with a valid form of online payment, usually a credit or debit account.

    • 3

Install site-specific download software (optional). Sites such as Universal Music suggest this but they do not require it, and albums may be downloaded in compressed form as zip files.

    • 4

Purchase the album using your registered details.

    • 5

Download the liner notes or program booklet separately, if you can choose that option. If not, the liner notes will download automatically with your album.
