Launch Reason and and create a Redrum computer by selecting the device within the "Create" menu. After the drum machine appears in the rack, select the device and click the "auto route" button in the "Edit" menu. This will ensure that the Redrum computer is properly connected to the virtual mixing console and is capable of producing sound.
Select the type of dance beats you would like to use with the drum computer by clicking on the image of the file folder underneath the first drum channel on the device. In the menu that appears, choose which genre of drum sounds you wish to use. For dance beats, consider using the "House" or "Techno" kits.
Sample the individual sounds the drum computer has loaded by clicking the "Play" icon at the top of each drum channel. If you have connected a MIDI controller to your computer, these drum sounds will play when keys or buttons on the controller are depressed.
Place the drum sounds you would like to use in sequence by pressing the "Select" button for the sound you would like to use and assigning it to the individual square buttons in the step sequencer at the bottom of the Redrum machine. Dance beats typically involve bass drum hits every fourth step in the sequence. Consider placing a heavy kick on steps one, five, nine and 13 within the sequencer display. Fill in the rest of the sequence using the available sounds.
Adjust the volume of individual drum sounds in the computer using the "Level" knobs located on each drum channel. Turning this knob to the left or right increases or decreases the volume of the individual drum sound.
Adjust the location of the drum sounds within the stereo field using the "Pan" knobs located on each drum channel. Turning this knob to the left or right moves the individual drum sound to the left or right speaker.
Right-click the Redrum computer and select "Copy Pattern to Track" to place your programmed drum sounds on the song time line. This will allow the drum sounds to be exported as audio files.
