How to Make Beats on Reason 4.0

Reason is virtual music studio software manufactured by Propellerhead. Reason 4.0, includes virtual instruments such as drum machines, samplers, synthesizers, sequencer and loop player. The software also includes professional mastering tools, a mixer, vocoder and effects. Besides editing your own recorded music, you can also create you drum beats to be incorporated in a new song.   1. How to Make Beats on Reason 4.0

      Open the Reason 4.0 program. The default rack appear on the application. This default rack includes the standard Reason device with audio outputs.

      Go to the tool window and click on the drop-down menu for devices. Click on the 14:2 mixer and then drag into the device portion of the Reason application. Go to the tool window again and find the ReDrum Drum Machine device from the drop-down menu. Click on it and drag it just below the mixer. The devices will automatically be connected together.

      Change the default drum sound, which is the disco kit, but click on the folder icon of the device and then choose one of the drum patches. You can choose from several drum kits, like rock, hip-hop and tribal.

      Click on the Select option in the device to fill in each portion of the drum kit, including where you want the snare, hi-hat, cymbal, tom, kick and bass drum to be position to be played in a sequence.

      Create a standard drum beat by adding the kick drum of your drum kit into slots 2, 4, 8, 10, 14, and 16, and add the snare drum into slots 6 and 12. Then add the hi-hat in slots 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16.

      Click on the Run button to hear the drum beat you created. The beat will loop continuously until you click the Stop button.
