How to Make Sections on an MP3 & CD

Sometimes MP3s come as one whole nonstop package of audio instead of smaller, easier to deal with sections. This can be quite annoying. Through the use of a downloaded freeware program and a few editing actions, you can turn that long MP3 file into a multitude of shorter, more accessible sections to be placed on a CD as you desire.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the freeware program titled mp3DirectCut. (See Resources)

    • 2

Install the free MP3-editing program. Open the program. You are asked to set the language and/or other settings. Click "OK."

    • 3

Open the MP3 file of your choosing. Click at the earliest point in the visible audio before the audio in your file actually begins. Click the "Cut" function under the "Edit" section at the bottom-left corner of the screen.

    • 4

Repeat this same process of clicking or selecting a spot in the audio, then cutting, where ever in your file you want to split the audio resulting in sections.

    • 5

Save your final sectioned off version of your MP3 file by going to "File" in the upper-left corner of the screen and selecting "Save Split." A window comes up. Choose the destination where you'd like to save your file, then click "OK." The file's names will be the same as the original file with numbers in parenthesis showing which section of your final split audio file it was (the order). Rename the files afterward if you aren't satisfied with the file names given. You can now put these separate sections of your MP3 onto a CD.
