How to Purchase a Song

Since the evolution of Napster in 1999, the easiest way to get music was to download it through the Internet. In the early years, most of this music was free, but illegal to download. These sites still exist but are usually under severe litigation and are not up for long. There are, however, many sites which allow people to purchase individual songs for a nominal fee and with no fear of legal reprisal.

Instructions

  1. iTunes

      Go to the Apple website and download iTunes, a free software download.

      Go to the iTunes store. Once you have finished downloading iTunes the button for the store is on the left, and is labeled iTunes store.

      Find the song you are looking for. There is a search window in the upper right hand corner of the player in which you can type your inquiry.

      Click on the the "Buy" button on the right hand side of the screen. It is small and gray and is labeled, "$0.99 BUY."

    Amazon

      Go to amazon.com and click on the button labeled "Movies, Music and Games." It is located on the left of the screen. Click on the option for mp3 downloads.

      Type in the song or artist you are looking for in the white bar at the top of the screen.

      Click on the "Buy mp3" button on the right side of the screen.

    Rhapsody

      Go to rhapsody.com.

      Type in the name of the song or artist you are looking for in the bar labeled "Search Music."

      Click on the yellow button labeled "Buy mp3." It is located in a couple of different places on the page for ease of use.

      Click on the orange button labeled "Go to Cart." This will take you to a screen on which you can actually purchase the song.

      Click on the orange button that's labeled "Checkout Now."
