How to Get Daft Punk Vocals

French dance music pioneers Daft Punk use distinctive robotic vocal effects in hit songs including "One More Time" and "Digital Love." Pop and electronic music adopts similar effects in recordings from Cher, Britney Spears and Kanye West. Although Daft Punk's songs modify vocal sounds with multiple effects, the duo used Auto-Tune on its hit single "One More Time," named one of Billboard's 10 Awesome Auto-Tuned Songs in July 2011. Antares Audio Technologies created Auto-Tune to correct pitch problems in singers' vocal tracks. Daft Punk manipulated this "tuning" effect to create a robotic effect on the human voice.

Instructions

    • 1

Record a vocal take. Search through your plugin effects list on that track and select Auto-Tune to apply the plugin to the vocal track. Click on the Auto-Tune plugin so the plugin's controls appear onscreen.

    • 2

Set “Key” and “Scale” to suit the key and scale of the specific vocal track you have recorded, and choose an “Input Type,” such as “Soprano” or “Alto.” To replicate the Daft Punk song "One More Time," select Dmaj as the "Key" and Alto/Tenor as the "Scale."

    • 3

Set “Retune Speed” to fast, or 0. Set “Scale Detune” to midway between 0 and -5.

    • 4

Set "Formant Correction” to 0, disabling the function. Formant correction retains the natural sound of the human voice, which the effect must override.

    • 5

Set “Natural Vibrato” halfway, at 0.0. Set “Pitch Amount” to 100.

    • 6

Set “Amplitude Amount” to 0. Set “Formant Amount” to 30.

    • 7

Set the “Rate,” “Onset Delay,” “Variation” and “Onset Rate” dials all to 0. Set “Create Vibrato” to “No Vibrato.”
