Open your preferred digital audio workstation if you are using a software auto-tune device. Import the audio recording you wish to modify using the "import" or similarly worded command.
Connect your microphone to the computer using your digital audio interface and select it as your preferred audio input through the software's "i/o" settings if you are planning on creating perfect pitches in a live setting.
Connect your external auto-tune hardware to your multi-track recorder and mixer if you are using the tuning utility in conjunction with hardware equipment as opposed to software products.
Set the "attack," or response time on the auto-tuning device to a very short duration, such as 10-12 milliseconds. This setting will cause the device to quickly begin modifying the designated pitch. Fast response times will eliminate audible adjustment periods and create the effect of perfect pitch.
Choose which notes you would like the auto-tuner to detect or ignore within the parameter settings on the device. This feature packs a considerable amount of power when used correctly. If, for example, you tell the tuner to ignore the pitch "C," pitches that are as close as one cent below will automatically be shifted down to the note "B." Pitches on or slightly above "C" will be automatically transform into "C#." This feature is especially useful for creating perfect pitch tuning, as singers can isolate certain notes and have any and all tuning inconsistencies created when attempting to sing that given note be redirected immediately.
