How to Find the BPM of a Song in Logic

Digital audio technology has evolved significantly since the first iterations of sequencing and effects-processing software. The range of tools that these programs now offer to producers is staggering. You can activate tempo adjustment, pitch adjustment, equalization and effect processing at the touch of a button and customize them with intuitive, accessible controls. Programs such as Logic and Pro Tools allow users to detect the "beats-per-minute," or BPM, of a song. Uploading audio in Logic and determining its BPM is a quick task.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Logic and click the "+" symbol located to the immediate right of the "global tracks" panel in the left corner of the screen to create a new audio track.

    • 2

Select the "Import Audio File" tab in the "File" menu. Choose the audio file or song you are planning to use from the pop-up menu that appears.

    • 3

Click on the newly imported audio file, ensuring that it is highlighted. Select the "open tempo list" command from the "tempo" sub-menu of the main "options" tab located at the top of the screen.

    • 4

Find your track within the tempo list. If you have uploaded more than one track, there will be multiple listings in this window. Each track will be labeled with the file name it has been assigned. Logic will display the detected BPM of each track on the right side of this panel.
