Download the program appropriate for your computer at audacity.com. Plug in a microphone to the back of your computer. Select "microphone" from the drop-down selections in the upper right-hand corner. This will allow the speakers to intake the dance music you create.
Press the record button. This is a red button located on the top row between "play" and "pause." A jagged line will appear once you begin playing your music.
Play your dance music. The dance music could be something you create at that moment on an instrument or that you have prerecorded on a disc. The line will go up and down as it records. Once you finish recording, press the stop button, which is two buttons to the right of the record button on the top of the screen.
Edit your music. Place the cursor where you want the music to start and drag it to where you want it to end. This will edit out any parts of the music you do not want included. For example, if you want just the beginning of the music then drag the cursor from the very beginning of the line to the where you want the music to cut off at. You can also edit how loud you want the music by clicking on "effect," listed above the play button. The number you enter here will determine the volume. The higher the number, the louder the music will play and vice versa. Then click on the OK button.
Click on "file." This is located at the top left hand corner of the screen. Select "save as" and save your dance music to your computer.
