What You Should Include in a Letter to Music Producers Regarding Your Demo CD?

It is important to include a cover letter when you send a demo to a potential producer. It should be concise and include pertinent information about your career and songs--it should impress and intrigue the reader.
  1. Intent

    • State your reason for contacting the producer. Let her know what kind of production you are looking for, how many songs you want to record, and if you are targeting songs to a specific artist.

    Experience

    • Let the producer know your professional experience as a musician or songwriter. Include a bio with information about songs you have published, the number of albums you have sold, contests you have won, awards and any other pertinent information.

    Song Information

    • Include specific information about your songs, such as the title, length, lyrics, style and songwriter's name.

    Thanks and Contact Info

    • At the end of your letter, thank the producer for his time. Also include contact information, such as your name, address, telephone number and email.

    Keep it Concise

    • Your cover letter should be concise and one page at the most. Music producers don't have the time to read long letters. If you cram in too much information, vital details might be missed.
