A List of Boy Bands of the 1990s

Boy bands were a musical phenomena that stretched beyond genre into a world where only one thing mattered: teenage girls absolutely must be able to fawn over every single member of the group. Some boy bands flopped, some enjoyed a burst of spotlight with a hit single and others flourished. Some individual members of boy bands even went on to become stars after the boy band phenomena had burned out.
  1. *NSYNC

    • *NSYNC, a group whose members (specifically Justin Timberlake) have seen continued success beyond their time as a boy band, are one of the all-time top grossing boy bands. The group enjoyed critical acclaim worldwide with six stays in the top 10 charts, including a stint in the number 1 spot with "It's Gonna Be Me". Their final album, Celebrity, was released in 2001, and several members of the group moved on to solo careers and acting after that.

    Backstreet Boys

    • The Backstreet Boys, a quartet comprised entirely of teenage stars, most notably Nick Carter, older brother of child star Aaron Carter, who went on to have his own reality television show on the E! Network. The Backstreet Boys saw chart-topping results in both the US and Europe during the late 1990s and reunited in 2005 with the release of their platinum selling album "Never Gone".

    98 Degrees

    • Hailing from Los Angeles, California, this group of four vocalists sang their way to eight top 40 singles during their active years. Among these rousing successes was a stint at the number one spot with the song "Thank God I Found You," performed with artists Mariah Carey and Joe. Their final album, "Why," was the groups first album to not reach any major top 40 charts in the US or abroad.
