How Can I Find a Song If I Only Know the First Line of the Lyrics?

Radio stations can help you to discover and enjoy new music, but in some cases, you might stumble upon a really great song without learning the title or the artist's name. In some cases, you may even want to track down songs that you have known your entire life, but whose titles elude you. The Internet makes it possible to track down songs even if you only know a few lines or even just the first line of lyrics.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit a lyrics search engine online. Examples include Lyrics Fly, Lyrics Robot and Lyrics Drive.

    • 2

Enter the first line of the song lyrics into the white "Search" box near the top of your search engine window. In some cases (as with Lyrics Fly, for example), you must select an option near the "Search" box specifying that you are searching by lyrics, and not by artist or song name. Click the appropriate option if multiple search options appear on your screen. Click "Search."

    • 3

Click the available search results to read complete lyrics and verify that they correspond to the song that you are looking for. If so, you can find the artist name and song title at the top of the page. If not, click the "Back" button on your browser and click on a different search result.

Enter your line of lyrics into a traditional search engine, such as Yahoo!, Google or Bing, if the lyric-specific engines fail to draw any relevant search results. If you know the line of lyrics perfectly, word for word, you can place quotes at the beginning and end of your lyrics for targeted search results. Do not do this if you have any uncertainty about the accuracy of your lyrics, because search engines will return only exact matches.
