How to Fix a Scratched Disc Using Toothpaste

Even the most careful DVD and CD owners can end up with a scratched disc. A scratch can make the disc skip, ruining the sound of the CD or the movie. You may be able to save the disc by polishing it with toothpaste.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the scratch CD or DVD disc with a dry rag or paper towel. Do not use chemicals. Chemicals may cause more harm to the disc. If needed, use a damp cloth with water to clean the disc.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the scratched CD or DVD. A small dot of toothpaste will cover the whole disc.

    • 3

Smooth the toothpaste with the soft cloth or paper towel until you can no longer see the toothpaste. If the CD or DVD improves but still has problems playing, repeat the process.
