How to Find Old Game Shows

The BBC broadcast the first game show, “Spelling Bee,” in 1938. Since then, audiences throughout the world have loved following players as they solve puzzles or answer questions in order to win prizes or money. If you want to re-experience some of your favorite game show moments or see episodes that you missed during the game show’s network run, some of them are now on DVD. You might even be able to find and watch clips from your favorites instantly online.

Instructions

    • 1

Check "DMOZ: The Open Directory Project" for its list of websites and forums devoted to various game shows, or the "List of TV Game Shows" offered on FAQs.org (See Resources for links). These resources can provide information on the host and format of the show, and some lead to detailed information about its memorable episodes or scenes.

    • 2

Search YouTube.com or TVParty.com for clips of the shows. TVParty.com offers numerous clips, descriptions and other information on old game shows. The site's search feature covers programs popular from the 1950s to the 1970s.

    • 3

Search for DVDs of game shows at major retailers, or online at sites like Amazon.com. Netflix or Blockbuster Online offer rental possibilities of the available DVDs. They will ask you to sign up for a monthly membership, but it could be a cost-effective option if you want to watch several series and do not wish to buy each set.

    • 4

Check the schedule of the cable channel GSN, formerly known as the Game Show Network. GSN has original programs, but also shows numerous re-runs of popular past and present game shows, including "Deal or No Deal," "Family Feud," "Match Game," "The Gong Show" and "The Newlywed Game."
