  1. WREG-TV

    • WREG-TV is the CBS network's affiliate in Memphis. The station was founded by Hoyt Wooten, who was an electrical engineer and founder of WREC Radio in 1922. In 1928, when television was still considered a new medium, Wooten received a permit from the Federal Radio Commission allowing him to build a television station. However, Wooten did not receive a license to operate a television station until 1955, in part because of a freeze that the federal government put on allowing new stations. On Dec. 31, 1955, WREC launched, and its first program was the Gator Bowl. The call letters of the station were changed to WREG after Wooten sold the company.

In 2010, WREG-TV has a news team that includes anchors Claudia Barr, Kris Anderson, Dennis Turner and April Thompson. The station's local reporters include Scott Noll, Danya Bacchus, Tom Powell and Keli Rabon. In addition, WREG-TV's weather forecasts are delivered by Jim Jaggers, Tim Simpson and Todd Demers; the sports is reported by Glenn Carver and Mike Ceide; and the traffic reports are handled by George Brown and Corie Ventura.
