What is a radio galaxy?
A radio galaxy is a galaxy that emits an enormous amount of radio waves. This emission is caused by the interaction between the galaxy's supermassive black hole and its surrounding environment, which produces jets of high-energy particles that accelerate to nearly the speed of light. These jets then interact with the interstellar medium and produce synchrotron radiation, which is a type of electromagnetic radiation emitted by high-energy electrons spiraling in a magnetic field. Radio galaxies are often associated with active galactic nuclei (AGN), which are regions in the centers of galaxies that are powered by the accretion of matter onto supermassive black holes. Radio galaxies are some of the most powerful objects in the universe, and they can emit more energy in the form of radio waves than all of the stars in their host galaxy combined.
