On December 12, 1901, Canadian engineer Reginald Aubrey Fessenden used a transmitter in Brant Rock, Massachusetts, to transmit a wireless message that included a weather report and a live performance of Handel's "Largo." This broadcast was received by several ships at sea, making it the first successful radio transmission to be heard over a long distance.
Fessenden's achievement marked a significant milestone in the development of radio broadcasting. It paved the way for the development of commercial radio stations and the subsequent growth of the radio industry. In the years that followed, radio broadcasts began to include news, sports, entertainment, and other types of programming, and radio became an important source of information and entertainment for people around the world.
