How to Play DVDs on a Computer & DVD Player

Digital video discs, known as DVDs, provide great digital storage for audio/video recordings such as movies, TV shows and home video. With a growing number of people spending more hours in front of their computers, the ability to play DVDs in laptop and desktops is growing as well.

Instructions

  1. Computer

    • 1

      Turn on your computer, and eject the DVD player tray. Insert the DVD, label-side up, in the DVD tray. Close the tray.

      Open your preferred media player program on your computer. Most DVD players will have an associated program that automatically opens when the disc tray is closed.

      Select "Play" from the command bar in the media program to play the DVD.

    DVD Player

    • 4

      Turn on your DVD player. Turn on your TV. Adjust the TV to the input associated with the DVD player.

      Eject the DVD player tray. Insert the DVD into the tray, label-side up. Close the tray.

    • 6

      Push the "Play" button on your DVD player or DVD player remote to begin playing the DVD.
