Most Interesting Man Vs. Old Spice Guy

"The Old Spice Guy" and "the Most Interesting Man in the World" are characters who advertise popular products -- body spray and beer -- to male consumers. Both are portrayed as calm, hypermasculine men who live fascinating lives and never find themselves flustered. As of early 2011, these advertisements are broadcast on television and on radio.
  1. Products

    • The Most Interesting Man in the World is part of the Dos Equis advertising campaign; the Old Spice Guy advertises Old Spice body wash and body spray. Dos Equis, a popular lager, was originally brewed by Wihelm Hasse in 1897 and is available in Tecate, Tecate Light and Amber varieties. Old Spice, founded in 1934, sells soap, shaving cream, aftershave, cologne and body wash.

    Actors

    • Isaiah Mustafa portrays the Old Spice Guy. Born in 1987, Mustafa has played bit parts in television shows but is famous primarily for his Old Spice ads. The actor has a chiseled figure and typically appears shirtless, showing off his six-pack abs.

Jonathan Goldsmith plays the Most Interesting Man in the World; Will Lyman narrates the advertisements. Goldsmith, born in 1938, has guest-starred in several television shows, such as "Charlie's Angels" and "MacGyver," and has appeared in a number of Westerns.

    Old Spice Guy

    • Mustafa portrays the Old Spice Guy as a smug, smooth man who is irresistible to women. He pitches the products with over-the-top monologues, often while wearing little clothing. In some advertisements, he is randomly transported from one place to another -- such as from the shower to the beach -- all while wrapped in a towel. In other advertisements, he is half-man, half-horse, or mysteriously rowing a paddle boat. The Old Spice Guy never pays much mind to his fantastical surroundings; instead, he delivers his lines about the joys of Old Spice in an over-the-top manner, never taking his eyes off the audience.

Most Interesting Man in the World

    • The Most Interesting Man in the World is an older, smooth-talking ladies' man who seems never to blink. Each advertisement gives viewers a new, interesting fact about him, such as "He bowls overhand" and "He's won trophies for his game face alone." He is often found at a party, surrounded by beautiful women and occasionally making a statement on a topic such as life, careers or lady luck. Each commercial ends with the Most Interesting Man saying "Stay thirsty, my friends" or "I don't always drink beer -- but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis." Some advertisements feature both statements.
