When did soap opera start?

Soap operas got their name in the United States around 1930 for being sponsored primarily by soap product advertisers and aired mainly during the daytime or morning when housewives listened.[2] The format's popularity quickly soared, with programs such as Painted Dreams debuting on radio stations.[8] By the end of the 1930s, more than two dozen soap operas aired daily with some stations broadcasting them from seven in the morning till almost midday.[3] The first televised soap opera, Faraway Hill, premiered May 3, 1946; it also aired on the radio.[26] It was replaced a month later with A Woman to Remember; both originated out of WABD (now WNYW).[27] These series established the conventions still adhered to by all soap operas that followed during subsequent decades,[28] with daytime series primarily aimed at female television viewers.[
