How to Get Your Screenplays Published Into a Movie

The best and most fruitful way to get a screenplay made into a film is to sign with an agent. An agent will sell your screenplay on your behalf, usually taking anywhere between 5 and 15 percent of the sale price. Getting an agent can be an incredibly difficult and long process, however, once the connection is made, an agent will act as your portal into the film industry.

Instructions

  1. How to send your screenplay to an agent

    • 1

Make sure your screenplay is perfect. It is important that you read or have actors read your screenplay aloud so that it is in perfect shape.

    • 2

Copyright your screenplay by mailing it to yourself. By doing this, you are protecting your ideas from plagiarism. Alternatively, you can register your script with the Writers Guild of America.

    • 3

Write a query letter. Most agencies will not read a screenplay unless they are attracted to your idea. Write a short, one paragraph summary of your screenplay.

    • 4

Go to the Writers Guild of America Website listed in the resources section and choose a few agencies to send your query to. The more, the better. Personally address each query letter.

    • 5

Send out your query and wait for a response. Use this time to make sure your screenplay is in perfect shape and you are completely happy with it.
