How to Get a Movie Published

To get a movie published, you must be sure that the script is something that can be picked up, and then you must be willing to make accommodations to the script. If you follow the steps below, you'll find that the process can be very rewarding.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a script writing class or even a seminar. If you aren't finished with your script, this will help you to finish. If you are finished, you will need to take the class so that you understand what your script must be like. Even if you think you have the perfect script, you will need to take a class to make sure.

    • 2

Create a press kit for your movie script. This should include a one page synopsis of the script itself, as well as a poster for the movie, a general outline of who is in the movie and their general role, and some thoughts on what your overall idea of the movie should be.

    • 3

Keep a final and polished copy of the script ready and waiting at your side.

    • 4

Begin to shop the press kit to agents who can get your movie published. Be ready to send the entire script if that is what is required. Send off your press kits, and if needed, send your script to your agents.

    • 5

Give up control of the script once an agent agrees to shop it around. An agent will know what will work and what will not work, so be wiling to do what the agent says you should do.

    • 6

Read over any contracts very carefully. Have your lawyer look at them as well, and discuss the fees and gains with your agent, the lawyer and your family members before you sign.

    • 7

If you choose not to go with an agent, you might be able to send the scripts directly to the studios. Check with the studios to see what their policies are on script reading, and be sure that you follow them when it comes to your scripts.
