How to Hold a Prop in Front of a Green Screen

A green screen is a photographic device used to create backdrops in photos and film that are not present in real life. For example, a green screen allows you to display a photo at the beach without actually being at the beach. Props placed in front of the green screen enable you to add touches of realism to the shot and make the background more believable. A green screen does not necessarily actually need to be green. It can be blue, instead of green, and still have the same effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose props that match the intended backdrop. For example, for a scene in a tropical rain forest, scatter tropical plants in front of the green screen or have the person being photographed hold an animal.

    • 2

Refrain from touching the green screen with a prop. This could cause the screen to move and distortthe photo.

    • 3

Avoid using props that are green.

    • 4

Refrain from wearing clothing that is green if you are in the shot holding the prop. However, if you want the prop to appear suspended in mid-air, wear green clothing to cover your arms and hands.
