The movie Nights in Rodanthe ends with Adrienne Willis (Diane Lane) and Paul Flanner (Richard Gere) spending a passionate night together in the inn after confessing their love for each other.
The next day, Paul leaves Rodanthe to return to his family who he had deceived by keeping his extramarital affair with Adrienne a secret. Adrienne eventually finds out that Paul lied about his wife's situation, and feeling deceived, she chooses to let him go.
Years later, Paul comes back to Rodanthe and finds out Adrienne has terminal cancer and doesn't have much time left. He confesses to Adrienne that she had transformed his life and that he couldn't face his family as he felt he didn't deserve them after what he did to her. Adrienne forgives him, and they spend a few days together before Adrienne peacefully passes away while holding Paul's hand in the inn.
