How to Make Movies on an Imac

The iMac, Apple's consumer desktop computer, comes with multimedia software that makes it simple to create movies, even for those with limited experience. With its large screen and user-friendly software, the iMac is a computer that is fun to work on. You can make movies through footage from a video camera or still images from a digital camera. Once you have created your movie, you can burn it on a disc to share your memories with family and friends. All you need is an iMac and the software bundle that is included with the system.

      Use an external device such a video or digital camera. You can use your existing device to capture footage and upload them to the computer for editing. iMovie comes with already installed on the iMac, and it is used mostly for creating simple movies because of its ease of use and user-friendly functions. Open iMovie, click on new project and follow the instructions. You can also drag and drop clips or pictures into the editing section and iMovie will automatically add this as a scene for your project.

      Make a slideshow movie using iPhoto. Movies can also be created through still images, and the images you have stored on iPhoto can be made into slideshow in a couple of seconds. Open iPhoto, click on the plus sign on the lower left hand corner, select the slideshow tab, enter the title and click create. IPhoto will create a folder which can be seen on the menu bar, particularly on the lower left hand corner. Drag photos to this folder and they become part of the slideshow that iPhoto can automatically create. You can further tweak the setting by selecting the duration of a certain photo and the transition effects to the next photo. You can also select audio tracks to use with your slideshow movie.

      Export the movie to iDVD. IMovie and iPhoto can work with iDVD to transform your movie into a format that can be watched on your TV. iDVD lets you transfer your movie into a DVD. On iMovie, there may be a button on the screen that allows you to easily export your movie to iDVD. For iPhoto, click on the share menu and click on send to iDVD. This will open iDVD, similar to exporting from the iMovie program. You can then use the functions on iDVD to control the movie including title, and audio tracks.

      Capture a movie using the built-in webcam through Photo Booth. This program not only allows you to capture a still image, it also lets you capture videos. Open Photo Booth and you will see three buttons on the left side of the program. Click the last one from the left, which is the icon that looks like a movie reel. Click on the red button on the center of the screen to capture your video.
