The All Terrain Armored Transport, or AT-AT, made its first appearance in "The Empire Strikes Back" during the Battle of Hoth. Described in the Expanded Universe as being designed for "fear over functionality," the AT-AT lumbers on four 12- to 15-meter-tall legs and features two front laser cannons designed to take out enemy artillery.
To counter the AT-AT advances, the Rebel Alliance used Snowspeeders to tie tow cables around the legs of the Transports, tangling them and ultimately bringing them crashing to the ground. According to Expanded Universe texts, the Snowspeeder is a modified version of civilian T-47 Airspeeders, outfitted with blaster cannons on the front of the vehicle and uparmored to operate in the harsh environments of Hoth.
Landspeeders are seen throughout the Star Wars universe, and serve as the equivalent of the basic automobile. First seen in the original "Star Wars" film, landspeeders are highly advanced hovercars designed to take people and small cargo across long distances. The landspeeder, one of the most common vehicles seen in the Star Wars universe, has appeared in four of the six films.
Podracers are the Star Wars equivalent of the stock car or Indy car. Designed solely for racing, podracers are designed to travel incredibly fast and are powered by between two and four large engines on the front of the craft.
Sandcrawlers are a combination warehouse/moving van/city built by Jawas, a marauding race which travels across Tattooine selling and trading the items they have come across in their travels. Sandcrawlers are long and very tall, reaching close to 100 feet in height.
