During the first battle of the Clone Wars, Republic forces airdrop Self Propelled Heavy Artillery-Turbolasers (SPHA-T walkers) onto the battlefield of Geonosis. These armored artillery vehicles, built by engineers on Rothana, propel themselves via a series of 12 legs and can navigate many environments. Fifteen clone troopers are needed to operate the SPHA-T walker, which boasts incredible laser firepower. Its cannon is modular, meaning Republic forces can outfit the vehicle with different weapon types, like concussion missile launchers or ion cannons. These ground vehicles helped shoot down Trade Federation core ships attempting to escape during the Geonosis battle.
The Jawa species makes its way around the deserts of the planet Tatooine via ground vehicles known as sandcrawlers. These gigantic, treaded fortresses provide Jawas with transportation and shelter. Sandcrawlers make an appearance in "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" when Anakin Skywalker returns to Tatooine to save his mother. Originally, prospectors from Corellia introduced sandcrawlers to Tatooine in an attempt to mine its sands for ore. Coming up empty-handed, the prospectors deserted the sandcrawlers and the Jawas claimed them. Jawas use these steam-powered ground vehicles to suck up droids and scrap to sell to area moisture farmers, including Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen in "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope."
In order to get through the deserts of Tatooine, some residents drive landspeeders. These ground vehicles hover over the sand. Owen and Beru Lars, whom Anakin meets in "Star Wars Episode II" in his quest to find his mother, use the V-35 landspeeder. This ground vehicle features an "angular nose, raised array of repulsorlift thrusters and large barrel-shaped power plant," according to the Star Wars website. SoroSuub developed the V-35 Landspeeder with families in mind.
Rothana Heavy Engineering manufactured the armored assault vehicle known as the All Terrain Tactical Enforcer (AT-TE), which made its debut on the battlefields of Geonosis. Like the SPHA-Turbolaser, the AT-TE propels itself, but with half the amount of legs. These lumbering ground vehicles crawl toward enemies and blast them with a series of laser cannon turrets and a single heavy-projectile cannon. Slow but stable, the AT-TE is mobile on the field and can deflect small arms fire. In "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones," Republic drop ships carry these ground vehicles into battle.
