How to Back Up DVD Movies for Free Using My Movies

My Movies is free software that will allow you to back up your DVD movies, then watch them on your computer. If you have a DVD drive, plenty of room on your hard drive and are running Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Server, 2008 Server, Vista or 7, you can install and use My Movies 3 Collection Management software to back up your DVD movies to your hard drive.

      Navigate to the MyMovies.dk website. Click the "Download" tab and install My Movies Collection Management software. Start the "My Movies Collection Management" program. In Windows Vista and 7 you can find the program by searching for it in the search box. On earlier versions of Windows, click the My Movies Collection Management icon on your desktop or click "Start" and "Search" to find the program on your hard drive.

      Click "Create Account" in the login screen to create a free account. Check your email at the address supplied to verify it. Sign into your My Movies account if prompted.

      Select "Collection" from the menu and choose "Copy DVD, HD DVD or Blu-ray." Insert the DVD you'd like to back up into your computer's DVD drive.

      Select "Folder Structure" as the destination type. Then choose the destination folder. You can back up your DVDs to the "Videos" folder or create a new folder with a name such as "My Movies." Click "Start." Select the check box beside "Close when done."

      Open Windows Media Player. Right-click the taskbar, then click "File" and "Open..." Navigate to the location on your hard drive where you copied the DVD files. Double-click one of the files to begin playing the DVD backup.
