How to Make a Movie on Your Computer From Scanned Pictures

Making a movie out of still photographs can be fun and enjoyable to watch. Famous films have been made this way, such as the landmark sci-fi film "La jetée," but this method can also be good for home movies. Whether you want to make a simple slide show or a complex narrative, using scanned photos to make a movie can be fulfilling for the maker and an audience.

      Scan pictures into a computer.

      Run your movie editing software. Most movie editing software is capable of doing this type of movie, so choose any software you want. If you want a free program, your PC should already have Windows Movie Maker installed.

      Import pictures. The import option may be listed in the "File" tab or it may start immediately on the screen when you begin your project, depending on the software you're using.

      Import audio. You will want some form of audio, whether it's dialogue or music. Select the "import audio" option in either the "File" tab or on the main page.

      Drag pictures to the timeline. Here, you will arrange the pictures in the order you want them to play. Once in place, you can drag the left or right side of the picture to change the duration of the picture's onscreen time.

      Drag audio to the timeline.

      Add in transitions. You can add various transitions by going to your "Tools" tab and selecting transitions. Then, simply drag the transition you want to use down to the spot you want it to occur.

      Edit to fit your purposes. You may want certain pictures to match certain moments in your audio, so you will have to trim or stretch certain pictures in order to make this work. Experiment until you get the desired results.
