The Lufkin Mall 9 theater is owned by theater chain Carmike Cinemas, as of 2010, and is located in the Lufkin Mall on the south side of town, off U.S. Highway 59 and Loop 287, west of Tulane Street. The theater features nine screens, including one with 3D capability. Movies are first-run new releases, and theaters feature DLP and DTS digital sound. Prices, as of September 2010, are $6.50 for matinees (before 6 p.m.) and children, and $8.75 for adults for evening showings (with a $3 surcharge for all showings of 3D movies).

Lufkin's other first-run cinema multiplex is the Lufkin Stadium 12, owned and operated by Cinemark. This theater is located on the far southeast side of the city, turning south from U.S. Highway 69 on Rd. 326 and winding around to Miles Way. The 12-screen complex, including two with 3D capability, features stadium seating in all arenas. Matinees don't begin as early on weekdays as at the Lufkin Mall 9, but prices are a bit cheaper in the evening for adults ($7.75 weeknights, $8.25 Fri.-Sat.), students with ID ($6.50), children and seniors ($6.25). Matinee price is $6.50, but watch for the Early Bird price of $5.25 for the first showing of the day every day. A $2.75 surcharge applies anytime for movies in 3D.

For those on the north side of Lufkin, it wouldn't be much longer of a trip north to the Carmike 6 in Nacogdoches, just 20 miles away. This six-screen complex (one with 3D), also featuring new releases, is located on the north-central part of town, on U.S. Highway 59/North Street. The theaters have the same digital projection and sound as at the Carmike in Lufkin, but prices are a bit cheaper here, for children ($6.00, matinee or evening), evening showings for adults ($8.50) and the 3D surcharge ($2.50).
