Many people go out to movie theaters for the entertaining, exciting and stimulating experience that accompanies watching a good film on a big movie theater screen with friends and family. If you live in the southern Indiana area and want to go enjoy a movie, there are multiple theaters to choose from.
  1. Studio 10 Cinemas

    • Owned by the Republic Theatre Group, and located in Shelbyville, Studio 10 Cinemas shows major contemporary movies and box office hits on its 10 screens. On the weekends there are multiple showings for all movies featured, however Monday through Thursday there is only one set during which all movies are shown, and that set usually begins at 6 p.m. As of February 2011, the price of tickets for adults is $7.75, and for children under 12 years old and seniors over 54 years old the price is $6. Studio 10 also features many 3D movies and distributes 3D glasses to the audience to enhance the visual sensation of the movie. The ticket price for 3D movies are typically three dollars more than the regular movie prices.

    Yes Cinema

    • Yes Cinema, located in Columbus, combines the artistic ambiance of an independent film theater with the grandeur of a mainstream box-office movie theater. Although the theater shows major Hollywood hits, the theater also shows foreign films, vintage cinema classics and independent films which entail alternative, cultural and educational subject matters. While prices for each independent film vary depending on the particular film, most mainstream Hollywood movies cost $6 for matinee showings and $7 for evening showings, as of 2011. Yes also offers and rents out a conference center for catered events. The conference center can host social group gatherings, business meetings or private parties, and the theater in the conference center can display private screenings of new films as well as televised sporting events.

    Historic Artcraft Theater

    • Built and opened in 1922, the Historic Artcraft Theater has a rich history and displays an architectural design and nostalgic atmosphere which reflects that history. Located in Franklin, the Historic Artcraft Theater plays older, classic movies on one screen. Usually each featured film is shown on the screen for around two days and then is replaced by the next classic. The theater entails simple and old-fashioned seating, a concession stand that offers candy and popcorn and rental opportunities for those who want to rent out the theater for a party, celebration or any other special occasion. For most classic films featured at the theater, tickets for adults are $5, tickets for military personnel, college students or seniors over 55 are $4 and $3 for children under 12, as of February 2011.

    The Great Escape

    • Located in Madison, the Great Escape theater consists of stadium style seating and six big screens that display mainstream Hollywood and box-office movies. In February 2011, adult tickets cost $8.25 and tickets for children and seniors 62 and over cost $6.50, however daytime matinee shows cost $6.50 for everyone. The Great Escape also offers a Critics Choice Card Program in which you can earn points for purchasing movie tickets at the theater, redeemable for everything from free popcorn to free movie tickets.
