Cars Used in James Bond Films

Bond, James Bond. Created by novelist Ian Fleming in 1953's "Casino Royale," James Bond has appeared in 22 feature films. Although he's been played by several different actors, his love of beautiful women, fine martinis and fast cars has remained the same. Although his cars change from film to film, they are always sleek, stylish and fast.
  1. Aston Martin

    • James Bond's first Aston Martin was a silver 1963 DB5 used in the 1964 film "Goldfinger." This model also appears in "Thunderball," "Goldeneye," "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World is Not Enough" and "Casino Royale." It is loaded with gadgets including tire shredders, bulletproof windshields, ejector seats and retractable machine guns. Bond drives a 1969 DBS in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." It's one of the few Bond vehicles not loaded with gadgets. Its only custom feature appears to be a hidden compartment for Bond's rifle. Newer versions of the DBS appear in both "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace." Bond drives an Aston Martin Volante in "The Living Daylights." Bond destroys this car while escaping the police in Czechoslovakia. Bond's 40th anniversary film, "Die Another Day," features a Vanquish V12, reuniting the super-spy with Aston Martin after several years driving BMWs.

    BMW

    • Bond drives a Z3 Roadster through the Caribbean in "Goldeneye." Although it is equipped with gadgets and weapons, the only one utilized by Bond on this mission is the radar. Bond drives a BMW 750i while traveling through Hamburg, Germany, in "Tomorrow Never Dies." This car meets an untimely end when Bond sends it off the top level of a parking garage while eluding the villain's henchmen. A BMW Z8 appears in "The World is Not Enough," and like the 750i, the Z8 is destroyed in the line of duty.

    Lotus Esprit

    • Bond drives a Lotus Esprits in two adventures. The first one appears in 1977's "The Spy Who Loved Me." It was equipped with a variety of weapons such as cement guns, missiles and harpoons. It could also convert into a submarine. Two Lotus Esprit Turbos appear in 1981's "For Your Eyes Only." One self-destructs when the villain's henchman attempts to steal it. Another appears briefly when Bond arrives in the Alpine town Cortina d'Ampezzo.

    Ford

    • James Bond typically drives British and European cars. However, he has driven two Fords. In "Die Another Day," Bond drives a 1957 Ford Fairlane while visiting Cuba. An inconspicuous choice considering the estimated 60,000 classic American cars still operating in Cuba. He drives a 2007 Ford Mondeo while visiting the Bahamas in "Casino Royale." The Mondeo was custom-built for the film at Ford's European Design Studio in Cologne, Germany.
