During a fight scene with Ron Howard's character, Wayne's dentures came loose and got stuck in Howard's mouth. The scene was filmed several times with various takes to get it right.
Wayne, being a tough guy, was not interested in stopping the filming and having the tooth reattached. He opted to have the loose tooth pulled and the scene was filmed again with him missing a tooth. You can even see the missing tooth in the final cut of the film.
