How to Find Movie Release Dates

The task of finding a movie's official release date doesn't have to be a difficult experience. Whether you're completing an upcoming movie critique or simply want to catch the latest film at the theater, there are a variety of resources available on the Internet and elsewhere.

Instructions

    • 1

Look on the back of the DVD or video cassette case. Most DVDs and VCR cassettes display the year that the movie was released near the list of actors and actresses (usually at the bottom of the case). Although you probably won't be able to find the exact month and date of the film's release, you'll be able to view the year.

Visit a local movie store. When visiting the store, glance on the wall behind the register or near the front counter. Many stores keep display boards with lists of upcoming movies and their release dates in these areas. If you aren't able to find the information, ask a store clerk. You can also call a local movie theater and ask a guest services representative for a movie's release date.

Access websites specifically dedicated to moviegoers, such as comingsoon.net or film-releases.com. Each website offers a plethora of movie-related information -- from DVD release dates -- to plot summaries, including movie release dates. For example, when using Coming Soon's Web page, look under the year's category and select a month to view anticipated movie release dates.

Log on to the Internet Movie Database's website. This resource provides both past and future movie release dates. Enter the movie title into the site's search engine and click "Go." The movie's release year is usually found in parentheses beside the movie title. If you would like to see the exact month, date and year, click the movie title. The precise release date, including the country, is listed directly after the movie's classified genre.
