How to Critique a Movie & a Book Together

Some of the most popular movies ever made have come from adaptations of books. The Academy Awards even has two screenplay categories: Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. However, movie adaptations often vary greatly from the book. A major reason for the difference is that books tend to deal with internal character issues, while movies have to deal with external action issues. Even though the transition from book to film can be different, the results are often satisfactory. Reading the book then watching the film, or vice versa, can be a rewarding and stimulating experience.
