Tips to Remake a Music Video

Music video remakes have become extremely popular with the relatively recent excitement over online video sharing. Amidst the large number of "spoof" or parody music video remakes made every year, only a select few videos stand out or go "viral." Creating a worthwhile music video remake requires an adequate amount of preparation, equipment and skill.
  1. Develop a Well-Thought-Out Concept

    • Decide what kind of music video you want to make and what message you wish to convey. Many music video remakes are satirical parodies of especially popular songs. Come up with a comedic, touching or unique idea that parallels the original music video and will catch the attention of online viewers. Put your ideas on paper, planning exactly what you plan to appear on video for each portion of the track.

    Rewrite the Lyrics

    • Write the lyrics of your remake so that they follow the basic tune and rhythm of the original song but convey your unique message. Use words that are similar in syllable count to the original lyrics. Keep the attention of your viewer by arranging your lyrics so that they become progressively edgier or interesting as the track moves forward.

    Choose a Shooting Style

    • Choose a shooting style that follows the camera work of the original video. For example, keep the quick camera movements of any beat-driven music video constant in your remake. Use slower camera movements for slow-paced ballads or country songs. Shoot your scenes as many times as possible until you record professional-looking material.

    Add Effects

    • Use a computer video editing program to cut and arrange your video footage. Use professional or semiprofessional computer software that offers a large variety of video effects. Adjust the lighting, contrast, hue and saturation levels to match the original music video. Lower the saturation of your video footage to zero for a black-and-white remake.
