How to Make Frame Animation

Frame-by-frame animation occurs when you show a series of keyframes. Each frame contains a different animated image. You can draw images using any version of Flash. All Flash applications include traditional drawing tools. You can also import files into a Flash application to create frame-by-frame animation.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Create a new movie in Flash by inserting several keyframes. Hit "F6" on the keyboard or go to "Edit" and "Shortcuts." Click "Frame 1" and continue to press "F6" to add additional frames. All of the frames you insert will be blank.

    • 2

Click on the "Onion Skinning" button. Onion skinning allows you to view previous frames so you can keep continuity. Onion Skin markers will appear above the keyframes, and look like bookends. Drag the Onion Skin markers to cover five frames. Click "Frame 1."

    • 3

Click "Frame 1." You can either click on the drawing tool and draw images into your frames, or you can upload images from a hard drive or flash drive. When you plug in your drive, a window will automatically pop up and give you the option of uploading files into your frames.
Click the right carrot ( > ) so the playback head can move one frame. The Onion Skins is now working. Draw or upload different images for all subsequent frames and repeat Steps 6 and 7 until you've created a full movie.
