Log and capture video. Once you have finished shooting or recording all of the footage you will need, that material must be logged and captured into a computer. Attach the recording device (camera or video recorder) to your computer with either an IEEE 1394 interface cord (also known as a FireWire) or a USB cord. Next, follow the directions of your chosen video editing software to take the material from your recording device to your computer.
Edit your media. Next, using your choice of video-editing software, look through the various cuts you have and align them to form a time line. Add any transitions or effects at this time.
Render/save final movie. Once you are finished editing your movie, you must save it or render it. This brings all of the effects, transitions and other elements together into one piece of media.
Once you have rendered your movie, place a blank DVD into your DVD player. Make sure you have the capability to burn DVDs. Look for a button marked 'burn' on your DVD player in your computer to see if you have this capability. Click burn. The disc will then format and then record your movie onto the disc. Make sure your DVD has enough data space to handle your movie or be prepared to have your movie recorded on multiple discs.
Once the movie is burned, the disc will eject itself. Test the movie to make sure it works in your computer as well as on other DVD players. If it does not play, check the disc to make sure it is compatible with your computer and player and make sure you have rendered the movie properly.
