How to Transfer DVRs to PCs With Pinnacle

Avid's Pinnacle software is designed to allow users to create and edit their own film projects. You can import video directly into the program and store it on hard drives or other storage devices to allow for easy access. Import video footage directly from your digital video recorder using Pinnacle's media capture tools. By following a few simple steps, you can quickly configure Pinnacle's capture tools to import DVR material onto your computer's hard drive.

      Open the Pinnacle software program on your computer and connect your DVR using the appropriate cables. Click the "Capture source" tab under the "Setup" menu to designate your DVR as the video capture source. Your DVR device will be listed under the "Video" tab in this menu.

      Click the "Capture" button at the top of the screen to configure Pinnacle for video capturing. Select the quality of your video capture in the menu that appears. Keep in mind that higher qualities demand increasingly large amounts of free hard disk space. Ensure that you have the necessary amount of memory free before you begin the capture.

      Press the "Start capture" button located on the diskometer panel on the bottom right side of the screen. Create a name for your project and type it into the dialog box that appears. Press "Start capture" again to start transferring video. When you have transferred all of your designated video files, press "Stop capture" to terminate the process.
