What is a kindly one in the Lightning Thief?

In the Lightning Thief, the kindly one is a euphemism for death. It is used by the Oracle of Delphi to describe what awaits Percy Jackson if he fails in his quest to retrieve the stolen lightning bolt. The kindly one is also referred to as the "Reaper" and the "Unmaker."
