How to Do the Jumping Match Head Magic Trick

When it comes to impressing your friends, nothing quite leaves them with their mouth agape like a magic trick. But if you're worried that you cannot pull a rabbit out of a hat just yet, then there are some other simple tricks you can try which are still seriously impressive. Case in point, the Jumping Match Head trick.

Instructions

    • 1

Strike the match to light it.

    • 2

Allow the match to burn. The key to this trick is that the match needs to wither. Meaning the stick itself needs to be charred and weak. Hold it between your fingers as long as possible before blowing it out. If you feel intense heat, blow it out immediately. Don't burn yourself.

    • 3

Pretend to pluck a hair from your head. This is where the Jumping Match Head trick really starts. In fact, if you are in the middle of a dinner show, you can preset matches to this point.

    • 4

Wrap the "hair" around the head of the match. Remember you are just pretending, so make sure the audience is not close enough that they should actually be able to see the hair.

    • 5

Rest the tip of your middle finger against the base of the match. As you hold the match with your index finger and thumb, inconspicuously slide your middle finger against the edge of it.

    • 6

Yank the "hair" at the same time you flick your middle finger and the match head will fly off. By yanking the "hair," you are drawing the eyes of the audience to that movement, while subtly flicking the end of the match to complete the Jumping Match Head magic trick.
