Clothing plays a role in this trick, an important role. In the video, Tim David is wearing a hooded sweatshirt and then a sweat shirt. In a discussion on the Learn Magic Tricks forum, the participants conclude that any shirt will do--even a T-shirt. The pants will be serving the role of coin catcher. What this means is that you have to rig your pants in such a way that your waistband stands away from your skin in the front of your pants and that you devise a pocket out of cloth or other material that will catch the coin so it doesn't roll on the floor and ruin the effect. If you design the pocket so that one side is taped against your skin and the other to the inside of your waistband, it will not be seen, especially when your shirt obscures the looseness of your waistband. If you're planning on wearing a hooded sweatshirt, put a slit above the top seam of the front pocket. If you are wearing some kind of other shirt, put a slit in that shirt also, at about the middle of your chest. Cut a piece of cloth that's the same color or even the same fabric as the shirt with the slit and tape it to the underside of the shirt so the slit of covered. Make sure you tape this cloth only at the top and sides, but leave the bottom open. With these preparations, you are ready to continue.
This trick needs a quarter. You can even take one from your pocket, but the trick is more affective if you borrow one from a volunteer in the crowd.
Make a show of holding the quarter up to the crowd so that they can see there's no gimmicks--just a quarter. Hold it in one hand, curl the fingers around it and do some intricate hand gestures with both hands as if you're either making the quarter go from one hand to the other or working on making it disappear. While you are doing this, slip the quarter into the slit and let the coin drop down into your pants. If you prepared your clothing properly, the fun is only beginning. If not, be prepared to run. It would probably be a good idea to practice this part in front of mirror to make the trick appear seamless. It is possible to do this without a shirt, but you would have to design the coin catcher in your pants more carefully since you'll not have a shirt to hide it, then practice dropping the quarter into them without being obvious.
Ask the crowd which hand they think the quarter is. When they say, show that hand is empty and the other is as well.
