How to Do the Tilting Soda Can Trick

The tilting soda can trick is an anti-gravity demonstration commonly performed in cafeterias or at house parties. The trick consists of balancing a standard 12-ounce soda pop can on a table so it tilts at a 45-degree angle. This simple trick requires no special materials or expertise, just a can of soda and a steady hand.

Instructions

    • 1

Drink the soda in the can until only ¼ to 1/3 of the liquid remains. If you can't gauge the amount of soda in a can, pour 8 or 9 ounces of soda in a measuring cup and leave the remaining liquid in the can.

    • 2

Place the can on a flat, smooth surface, such as a cafeteria table.

    • 3

Tilt the can at a 45-degree angle so the metal edge between the base and side of the can touches the table.

    • 4

Release the can after the soda inside stops swishing. The can should stay tilted on its own.
