How did Victor monster find the secret of life?

In the novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, Victor Frankenstein does not find the secret of life. He creates a creature from lifeless parts, but the creature is not living in the same way that humans are. The creature is an animated being, but it does not have a soul.
