Procedure:
1. Engine Preparation: Disconnect the battery, drain the oil, and remove the air intake and throttle body. Remove components such as the fuel injectors, spark plugs, and ignition coils.
2. Removal of Cylinder Head: Loosen the cylinder head bolts in a specific sequence (refer to your car manual) and remove the cylinder head. Be cautious not to drop anything into the engine block.
3. Removal of the Piston:
- Use the appropriate tools to remove the piston pin clips or keepers that secure the piston pin to the connecting rod.
- Heat the connecting rod around the piston pin with a torch (if necessary) to expand it slightly.
- Carefully drive out the piston pin with a punch and hammer, and separate the piston from the connecting rod.
- Remove the piston rings by sliding them off the piston using a ring expanding tool.
4. Cleaning and Inspection:
- Clean the cylinder walls using a deglazing tool or honing tool.
- Visually inspect the cylinder walls for any damage, scratches, or excessive wear.
5. Preparation of the New Piston:
- Apply engine oil to the new piston ring grooves.
- Use the piston ring compressor to install new rings, ensuring they are positioned correctly and the gaps are within the specified range.
6. Piston Installation:
- Reheat the connecting rod (if required), reinsert the piston pin through the piston and connecting rod, and secure it with new C-clips or keepers.
- Carefully insert the piston assembly into the cylinder, aligning the piston ring gaps with the cylinder wall cutouts.
- Push the piston down gently, making sure the rings are seated correctly in their grooves.
7. Reassembly:
- Reinstall the cylinder head, following the recommended torque sequence for the cylinder head bolts.
- Replace the head gasket, if included in the gasket kit.
- Install all other removed components, including spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, air intake, etc.
8. Finishing Steps:
- Refill the engine oil and coolant.
- Connect the battery and perform a test run. Monitor for any unusual noises, leaks, or other issues.
