What was the first Gundam series?

The first Gundam series was Mobile Suit Gundam, which aired in Japan from 1979 to 1980. It was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yatate, and animated by Sunrise. The series tells the story of the war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, two factions vying for control of the Earth and its resources.
