In Memory of
William Shakespeare
The World's Greatest Writer
Born April 23, 1564
Died April 23, 1616
Here lies the body of William Shakespeare, playwright, and poet, and one of the most influential writers in the history of the English language. Known as the "Bard of Avon," Shakespeare produced over 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and two long narrative poems during his lifetime. His works have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than the works of any other playwright. He died on April 23, 1616 at the age of 52 and is buried in the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
The memorial also has these lines from Shakespeare's play, The Tempest:
We are such stuff as dreams are made on,
And our little life is rounded with a sleep.
