Cool Magic Card Tricks Revealed

Did you ever think about how cool it would be if you could amaze people with spectacular magic tricks? Some of these tricks might not be as hard as you think. With practice and finesse, you can soon be wowing crowds of awe-struck spectators with your feats of prestidigitation.
  1. Presto

    • The Trick: Have a member of the audience choose a card. After many shuffles, the audience member spells the magic word, "Presto," and finds his card.

How To Do It: Give a full deck of cards to a spectator. Have him split it into two piles and memorize the bottom card in one of the piles. Let him show it to anyone else in the audience but not to you. Put the pile with the spectator's card on top of the other pile and have him break the deck into four piles this time. As you pick up each pile, ask him if his card is in that pile. Make sure to put the pile with his card on the very top. Give the full deck to the spectator and have him deal the cards face down on a table. Have him spell out "P-r-e-s-t-o" as he deals six cards, then flip the next card (seventh card) face-side up. This card will be the spectator's card.

    Math Magician

    • The Trick: An audience member selects a card and follows a set of mathematical equations to come up with a total number. The spectator tells the magician this number, and the magician tells the spectator his card.

How To Do It: Ask a member of the audience to choose a card. Tell her to remember its numerical value (Ace = 1, Jack = 11, Queen = 12, King = 13) and the suit.

Tell her to double the value of the card and add 3 to the total. Ask her to multiply the complete total by 5. Instruct her to remember the number and then concentrate on the suit. If the card is a diamond, she must add 1; if the card is a club, she must add 2; if the card is a heart, add 3; and if the card is a spade, add 4. Ask her what the final total is.

Mentally subtract 15 from the total. The last figure gives you the suit (diamonds 1, clubs 2, hearts 3, spades 4). The first figure(s) gives you the card.

Example--3 of Hearts: 3 doubled is 6. Add 3 = 9. Multiply x 5 = 45. Add 3 for hearts = 48. The audience member will tell you that number. Subtract 15 mentally. Result = 33. The last figure in that number (3) means hearts, and the first figure (3) means 3.

    Three Jacks

    • The Trick: Take three Jacks and put them in different places in the deck. After you cut the deck and put it back together, the three Jacks amazingly appear next to each other in the middle of the deck.

How To Do It: Before you start the trick, take all four Jacks out of the deck and place one of them face down on top of the deck. Present the three Jacks to the audience and make up a story about how the Jacks had to split up for some reason but made promises to re-unite. Give the Jacks to a spectator and have him place one on top of the deck, one anywhere near the middle of the deck, and one on the bottom of the deck. Put the deck on the table and have the spectator cut it. Make sure you pick up the half with the Jack on the bottom. Put it on top of the other half of the deck. This will put three Jacks together somewhere in the middle of the deck. Flip the cards face up, and fan through them. You'll find the three Jacks together in the deck.
